The Recipe Exchange
Not really loving the current grocery store deli salad options since Marsh went away, Linda decided to go “old school” and make homemade bean salad a few weeks ago. It was delicious, and we think the fresh green beans really made it!

Three Bean Salad
Enough for 8 to 10 servings
10 ounces fresh green beans (you can use canned, too)
1 15 ounce can kidney beans, rinsed and drained well
1 15 ounce can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained well
3/4 cup finely diced celery – about 3 stalks
1/3 cup finely diced yellow onion

1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 &1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Black pepper to taste

Mix dressing ingredients in container and chill.  Bring pot of salted water to a vigorous boil, and add the green beans for about 3 minutes until crisp tender. Drain and plunge beans into a bowl of ice water to cool completely. After cool, cut into about 3/4” pieces. Add beans with remaining ingredients and then pour dressing over all and chill for at least 4 hours. Turn all ingredients a few times while chilling to evenly coat with dressing. Season with more salt and pepper as needed.

Wine Guy Reviews
Classic Napa Valley Cabernet with a very complex profile....
Round Pond Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 Rutherford, California $52
The Wine Critics Thought: Vinous 90 Points

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a gorgeous example of both the property and the vintage. Bright floral notes and vibrant red berry fruit five the Estate much of its gracious, finely-knit personality. This is an especially nuanced, mid-weight Rutherford Cabernet, not to mention of wine of total harmony and class. Drink 2016-2024. —A.G.

What We Thought: A dramatic nose of blackberry and gingerbread spice leads to a ripe, full-bodied, complex, blackberry palate that displays more ginger spice, black pepper and a little licorice with soft tannins that smoothy out the finish.

Did this deserve 95 points, not really, but it's darn good wine and amazing value by Bordeaux standards....
Château Malbec Bordeaux 2014 Bordeaux, France $19
We Bought Bunch $14.99
What the Wine Critics Thought: Decanter 95 Points

Superb intense and very inviting aromas of sweet cassis black fruit, warm spicy oak and coffee. Lovely mouth-filling palate of glossy delicious black fruit and well-judged oak giving an appealing spicy undercurrent. Superb wine. The blend is 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec.

What We Thought: This has a big blackberry and cassis nose and a restrained, medium-bodied palate of ripe blackberry framed buy supple but drying tannins that confirm it's Bordeaux origin.

Arguably, Chile's premiere Cabernet, Don pays yet another visit to the Wine Spectator Top 100!
Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon 2014  Puente Alto, Chile $99
What the Wine Critics Thought: Wine Spectator 96 Points

A ripe, rich and full-bodied red, with powerful flavors of dark cherry, plum pudding and currant that feature a lush creaminess. Firm and savory midpalate, ending with a long and refined finish that shows mineral and cocoa butter accents, supported by dusty tannins. Drink now through 2024. Top 100 Wines of 2017, #90. –KM

Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Wine Enthusiast 91 Points

This beautifully balanced Chardonnay checks all the right boxes for me....
Rodney Strong Chardonnay 2015 Sonoma Coast, California $21
We Bought A Bunch $16.99
What The Wine Critics Thought: Wine Enthusiast 92 Points
This wine from cool sites in the county over delivers for its price. Floral pear, nutmeg and orange peel flavors give it crispness and a savory bite, as tart grapefruit notes provide additional liveliness. Focused and bright, it's well worth stockpiling. Editors’ Choice. —V.B.

What We Thought: Ripe pear, butterscotch and notes of vanilla combine in this lightly oaky Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. Medium-bodied with a viscous mouthfeel, this wine is rich without being overbearing and lingers on the finish.
